Scamalot Advice
Always ask to see identification, and if still worried ask to call the police via 999. No police officer will ever demand payment there and then, they can only issue penalty notices that are then handled separately and independently of the Police. Any suspicion at all close the door and call the police for help.
Stop and think before you act. If something feels urgent, threatening, — that urgency or threat is the weapon. Scammers use pressure to override your judgement. Nothing is ever so urgent that you can't take five minutes to check, call back on a number you found yourself, or ask someone you trust.
