Scamalot Advice
Barclays will never initiate contact about direct debits via text from an unknown number. If you're genuinely concerned about your account, ring Barclays directly using the number on the back of your card — never use a number from the suspect message.
Don't tap links in unexpected texts. Scammers are particularly effective at making texts appear to come from real organisations, including your bank and HMRC. If the text claims to be from someone you deal with, go to their official website directly — type the address yourself, don't use the link.
What's happening
A scam text impersonating Barclays from a spoofed mobile number tells you that a direct debit has been arranged.
