Scamalot Advice

Anyone can claim to be from your bank, the police, HMRC, or any authority. Ask for their name and department, hang up, and call back on a number you found independently. Your bank or the police will never ask you to move money to a 'safe account' ΓÇö that account belongs to the criminal.

**Additional specific advice for this alert:**

Debt write-off schemes are always a con ΓÇö legitimate creditors don't ring you out of the blue offering to cancel what you owe, and no real company will push you to act quickly or hand over money upfront. If you're genuinely struggling with unsecured debt, contact StepChange or Citizens Advice directly; they'll help you free, and they won't have rung you first.
