Smishing Text HMRC Department for Work and Pensions sms
Scamalot Advice

The DWP and HMRC don't solicit applications via text for emergency payments. If you're genuinely eligible for winter support, you'll be contacted through official channels — never via an unsolicited link. These scammers are banking on people's financial anxiety; don't let them catch you out.

Don't tap links in unexpected texts. Scammers are particularly effective at making texts appear to come from real organisations, including your bank and HMRC. If the text claims to be from someone you deal with, go to their official website directly — type the address yourself, don't use the link.
