If someone calls claiming to be a family member in distress, ask them a question only the real person would know the answer to ΓÇö scammers' cloned voices can mimic tone and accent, but they can't know your private history. Don't be swayed by hearing a familiar voice; these criminals are betting on your emotions overriding your common sense, so take a breath and verify before you act.
If you're in any doubt about a caller's identity, hang up and call back on a number you find yourself ΓÇö from the back of your bank card, a recent bill, or the official website. Genuine organisations will never object to this. Scammers will, and often become aggressive. Hang up anyway.
