These housing repair vultures rely on catching you off-guard with a spoofed local number to seem legitimate. Legitimate tradespeople don't cold-call you about repairs you haven't requested — hang up immediately and contact your actual surveyor or local authority directly if you have concerns.
If you're in any doubt about a caller's identity, hang up and call back on a number you find yourself — from the back of your bank card, a recent bill, or the official website. Genuine organisations will never object to this. Scammers will, and often become aggressive. Hang up anyway.
