Scam calls using ‘spoofed’ phone numbers - City of London Police

Vishing Call phone phone
Scamalot Advice

These fraudsters are using technology to mask their real number and appear as someone trustworthy — your bank, the police, whoever gains them access to your wallet. The callback test remains your best defence: legitimate organisations won't mind you hanging up and ringing them back properly.

If you're in any doubt about a caller's identity, hang up and call back on a number you find yourself — from the back of your bank card, a recent bill, or the official website. Genuine organisations will never object to this. Scammers will, and often become aggressive. Hang up anyway.
